Testimonials

I started out doing yoga at my health club, and curious, decided to go to a studio for a class.  The wide variety of approaches has really opened my eyes to the range of what yoga has to offer.  Every teacher offers something unique. The studio is sometimes a place for refuge, and sometimes a place for laughing and trying new things.

Yoga helps me the find the strength, flexibility, and focus to do the things I love to do in life.  Practicing yoga at the Upper Valley Yoga Center feels like coming home to a warm and welcoming community.

Just being in the studio provided for me an overall and penetrating feeling of wellness and peace that I hadn't ever before experienced in a group setting.  It's not the results that are stressed in class so much as the practicing and trying to do the best your body will allow you during any movement or posture.  Technically I don't know hardly anything about Yoga.  But intuitively I know Yoga, in the way it is taught by UVY instructors, is pure and complete goodness for my body, mind and spirit - I can sense it.  And physically my body is slowly responding in a positive way and I feel very good about how far forward your instructors have taken me in a short period of time.

Just when you think you've mastered the art of tucking your shoulder blades down and into your back, you are gently prodded to rotate your shins outward, and your upper thighs inward, or the other way around, while you pull your lower belly towards your back body, and tip the pelvis downward.

Sure,  of course!

These are the subtleties of yoga skillfully taught by UVY's gifted and intuitive teachers.

Your yoga-infused subconscious body memory will stand you in good stead should you stumble or fall. Miraculously, you will end up in Cobra pose! Your teachers are your guides, and their visual cues will keep you present and  engaged in the practice of yoga. The UVY studio is a warm and friendly place, with very special people as your teachers. So this begs the question: Does the practice of yoga make nice people, or do nice people practice yoga?

The Introduction to Yoga class gave me a new awareness and positive connection to my body.  I had been to yoga sessions before but always felt judgemental towards myself and my body during those classes.  Sharon G. taught me a very different perspective of acceptance, openess and fun as we learned basic yoga.  I can now take that positive foundation to any yoga class. Sharon gave me a wonderful gift!

The day I took my first class at Upper Valley Yoga, I knew I'd found my "yoga home". Leslie, and all the teachers at the studio, truly practice what they preach: come to class, accept our instruction but listen to yourself and your body; honor your own best teacher, the teacher within. Yoga is a challenge for me: I am not naturally athletic nor flexible. Studios I attended in the past, emphasized my limitations rather than encouraging my growth. At Upper Valley Yoga, I feel both supported and challenged to try new things, take myself places I might not have gone before. Every class is a gift, not only for the yoga, but to be connected with others who are part of the Upper Valley Yoga community. An added treat is that the current space in White River Junction is spacious, sunlit and warm.

I tell people all of the time about you and UVY, because it is THE best yoga I have ever taken.  In fact, I didn’t even like yoga before coming to UVY!  Truthfully.

I LOVE the Upper Valley Yoga studio. The classes meet at all times so everyone can find a time that fits. The work out vary from energetic producing profuse, therapeutic sweating or more gently challenging. The instuctors have safety and comfort foremost and truly make you feel good whether you are flexible as a noodle or stiff as a board. I always feel better when I go; I have frequently commented to my husband that if I retired, I would make daily yoga classes part of my life. I'll get there!
